An Immigrant Student in America: Finding a College
Ayat Husseini is standing on the threshold of a new world: college. She is facing a challenge that many immigrant students across the United States share. She longs to venture out of state, to live on a leafy campus and experience everything college life has to offer, but her father is dead set against it.
“When I’m in school I’m not American enough, and when I’m at home I’m not Lebanese enough,” she says. While Ayat faces unique challenges in finding a good college fit as an immigrant student, she relates to anyone who’s looking for a school to attend. “I need to find a school that’s perfect for me because I’m going to be there for the next four years of my life,” she says.
