Great News for Mexican Nationals and Canadian Immigration
The government of Canada has lifted the visa requirement for Mexican nationals. Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, made an announcement during a meeting with the Mexican President, and now Canada will not require a visa for Mexican nationals to visit the country.
This will become effective starting on December 1, 2016. So if you are a Mexican citizen and you are planning to visit Canada anytime after November 30, 2016, you will not be required to apply for a visa. However, citizens and residents from every other visa-exempt country are required to have an eTA.
The eTA is a new system that was introduced in 2016. It’s a very easy online application and you will have to complete it prior to your visit.
Starting on December 1, 2016, if you are a Mexican national, you will not be required to apply for a visa. However, the maximum stay allowed is six months, per visit.
This also gives lots of benefits for workers who are coming under the NAFTA agreement (North American Free Trade Agreement). This exemption allows the applicant to present a work permit application at the Canadian border, based on the NAFTA agreement. By doing so, employers and employees will save a lot of time on application processing in the visa office. It can be assessed at the border, and you would be allowed to come under a work permit. If your application is approved, a work permit would be issued at the border.
So this is great news. Obviously, Canada is looking to improve its relations with one of the biggest partner in North America, which is Mexico, and if you’re a Mexican citizen, you can start getting these benefits starting on December 1, 2016.
