Halifax, Pier 21 Immigration stories with John
Stop by the Pier 21 Immigration Museum in Halifax, Nova Scotia. You can look at all the exhibits, listen to audio clips, watch the videos and participate in the official tour. You can even research the travels of a family member.
But I visited with John.
John is an official volunteer tour guide. He began working in and around the immigration pier in 1950 and spent 27 years associated with Pier 21.
The pier opened in 1928 and was closed as an immigration port in 1971 and saw about a million people shuffle through the system to enrich our country.
Immigration today happens more often by plane and car and very infrequently by boat.
Say hello to John for me. He was very nice to allow me to video his stories. He had many more to tell but you go and listen yourself.
